In December of 2021 John Deni of NATO propaganda firm The Atlantic Council authored a piece for The Wall Street Journal titled “The Strategic Case for Risking War in Ukraine,” subtitled “An invasion would be a diplomatic, economic and military mistake for Putin. Let him make it if he must.” Deni argued that “there are good strategic reasons for the West to stake out a hard-line approach” against Moscow and refuse to negotiate or back down over Ukraine, because if doing so provokes Russia to invade it would “forge an even stronger anti-Russian consensus across Europe,”
The idea is that China can be forced to waste such a large proportion of its wealth on defense that its economic growth will be inhibited.
The folly of wasting a large proportion of your own wealth to this end should be obvious. It seems especially silly to engage in a war of attrition with someone larger than you. That's not all : the whole thing makes it evident that the USA is evil, thus causing loss of international support to the BRICS block. Exactly what they should not have done. In short, so far the USA is losing their World War Three. I see no way they can turn this around. Even if there were a way the US would not do it, committed as they are to their course.
Once they lose the EU it's all over. But that won't stop the USA. They'll just keep making it worse.
I'm not sure they want a Stalin type rather to divide Russia up into 4 or 5 more easily managed pieces, and to get rid of Putin who has brought Russia together for sure.
Their stated goal, but in the face of Putin's 85% approval rating it is unrealistic, so much so I question it's sincerity. It is true that Washington insiders tell us that most involved seem to be under a groupthink delusion but I hope that at least a few in DC are rational actors.

Yes, Nuland's 'fuck the EU' as in 'who cares?', now takes on a more sinister pro-active fucking of the EU

Thanks Patrick - good article.
A small point; I think you meant to write ‘deprivation’ and not ‘depravation’, which means something else :)
Depravation. Lot of that going around.
